Consumer driven health care describes a variety of programs such as health reimbursement accounts (HRAs) and health spending accounts (HSAs) that encourage individuals to become more actively engaged in their health care decisions (e.g. designing their health insurance coverage, choosing their service providers, selecting health care services, or managing their own fitness and wellness). The goal of consumer driven health care is to empower consumers to take a more active role in their health care so they can make the best decision relative to their individual health care needs. This is accomplished by providing consumers better health information and giving them a financial stake in their plan.
